Developer Edition included with BDS 2006 and JBuilder 2006 requires InterBase to be run as an application

Abstract: Developer Edition included with BDS 2006 and JBuilder 2006 requires InterBase to be run as an application

If you run BDS 2006 or JBuilder 2006 at the same time as the InterBase 7.5 developer edition included with these products, InterBase will not start as a service when run as the system user, which is the default. If you attempt to run InterBase as a service in this manner using InterBase Manager you will get the following error.

interbase licensing error
please check the interbase.log file for details

InterBase.log will have:

Registration file error: License storage: c:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\.borland\borland.lic is marked read-only.

To run InterBase you have 2 choices:
  1. Run as application. To run InterBase as application, run InterBase server manager, uncheck Run the InterBase server as a service on Windows NT, then click Start.
  2. Make the user that runs InterBase as a service, be the same as the user that runs JBuilder or BDS. To change the user that runs InterBase as a service, select InterBase Server and InterBase Guardian in the Services Control Panel. Then select Action | Properties, select the Log On tab, and switch the user from Local System Account to the user running BDS or JBuilder.
