How can I make sure that the InterBase security database is only accessable to root users

Abstract: How can I make sure that the InterBase security database is only accessable to root users

Problem: After installing InterBase on Linux and Solaris systems, admin.ib has default permissions of 666. This means that users that are not root have read and write permissions to this file.

Solution: Change the permissions so that only root can access this file. To do this you need to

1. Navigate to the InterBase home directory.

2. chmod 600 admin.ib

Note: another step to make InterBase more secure would be to make sure that the interbase directory and its subdirectories have acess permissions of 755.
